The Carnegie Public Library now has OverDrive, a program that enables patrons to download eBooks to their Nook, Kindle, iPad etc. In addition to eBooks, patrons can download eAudio Books and movies to their MP3 players. We are VERY excited about this new program, which is free to Carnegie Library patrons. (All that is required is a valid library card.) Basic instructions are outlined below.

*** Using the Carnegie Public Library Over-Drive System***

1. Go to http://coloradodc.lib.overdrive.com

2. Click the “Account” button on the top right

3. From the drop down menu, choose Carnegie Public Library

4. Enter your library card number
(This is the 14 digit # on back of your library card, starting with 212)

5. Enter your pin number
Your pin number is the password that you set up for your library card.
If you have not set up a password for your library card yet, just use the default
password  “USERPASS” (or  try “userpass” with all lower case).

6. Once logged in, click on the menu button

7. On this screen, browse through categories in eBooks and eAudio books.
For a specific title, use the “Advanced Search” option in the top right corner.

8. If a book is available, you can click “Borrow”.
If the book already checked out, you can place a “Hold” on the book.
If the book is not yet in the OverDrive System, you can add it to the “Wish List”.

9. Select your media (iPad, Kindle etc)
You may need to download a reader app (like Kindle)

10. Once a book has been downloaded:
* Books will be placed on your “bookshelf “, and will be  accessible when you log in.
The length of time books can be loaned for varies from 7-21 days.
*When a book has been placed on hold, you have three days to retrieve it or it will go
to the next person in line.
*You will receive email notices to let you know when your book is due. When you
reach the deadline, the eBook or eAudio will automatically be retrieved by OverDrive. *You can renew the book, as long as there is not another patron in line waiting.

REMEMBER: There are only 2 pieces of information required to borrow books:
a) your library card number or username (on the back of the card, starting with 212)
b) a pin or password (either USERPASS or userpass), or the new one that you created

REMEMBER: With many devices you will need WiFi, and for lengthy downloads, you will need a decent internet connection. If you don’t have adequate internet service, feel free to stop by the library or computer center and use our free WiFi.

PLEASE NOTE: The OverDrive system is only updated every few weeks. If you only just acquired a library card you will have to wait until you are uploaded into the system. If you have recently changed your password, you may need to continue to use the default “userpass” or USERPASS” until the OverDrive system is updated.

PLEASE NOTE: If you want to set up a password (PIN) for your library card....
Visit carnegiepubliclibrary.org
Click on “View my Account” (middle of the page, at the bottom, under the search box).
The USERNAME is your library card number (starting with 212), and the generic password is the word USERPASS (or try userpass). Once you have entered this, you will be prompted to choose your own password. Remember, you can always just use skip this step and continue to use the generic “userpass” or “USERPASS”. Don't forget, new passwords are only uploaded to OverDrive once a month, so you will need to continue to use USERPASS (or userpass)  until then.
