Interlibrary Loan Services
Our Interlibrary Loan service provides patrons with a way to obtain materials their local library does not have in its collection. This link will allow you to find out if another area library has what you want.
Once you enter the site (at http://swift.aclin.org), choose the button on the left that says "BibSearch" and then choose one of the options in the drop down box in the box. Choosing "ALL LIBRARIES" will result in a long wait with many hits. Choosing "SouthEast Search" will take less time because it will only search libraries in southeastern Colorado, but the results will not be as complete.
Remember that only patrons who are in good standing at the library may request ILLs (interlibrary loan). To be considered in good standing, a patron must:
- be fine-free or have paid all outstanding fines;
- have a good borrowing record, which means books have almost always come back on time;
- have a record of returning materials in good condition or having paid for them if lost or damaged;
- and have been established as a patron for at least one month.
It is up to the discretion of the lending library to determine which of its materials it wishes to send out. Fragile, rare, or recently published materials are often not available. We can only request the items; we cannot guarantee if or when they will be sent to the Carnegie Public Library for you. Most ILLs are lent to us for three to four weeks and cannot be renewed. Keeping them past the due date may result in a loss of interlibrary loan privileges. Please note: Fines accumulate at $1.00 per day on interlibrary loan items.
At this time, you cannot actually order the material, but our friendly staff at the Carnegie Public Library will be happy to assist you:
- if you visit our checkout desk, you can fill out a brief interlibrary loan request form
- or fill it out online: Interlibrary Loan Request
- or you may also call in your requests.
To process them quickly, please have the following information (available when you use this link to search) ready for the librarian:
- Full title
- Author's full name (spelling counts!)
- ISBN (copy it accurately as one incorrect digit may result in an entirely different book!)
- format desired (book, large print book, audio cassette, audio CD, video, etc.)
